These are skills we practice in our puppy socialization classes at Golden Paws!  We’ll get your puppy up on the table, show them it’s a fun, safe place to be, and work on getting your puppy used to basic restraint.

When you take your puppy to the vet, bring a towel or mat to place on the table. This can help your dog feel more secure. Also, pack plenty of puppy treats and a lick mat or stuffed kong, filled with canned food or another appropriate filling. Encourage your vet and the techs to give your puppy treats. During the exam and vaccinations, you can hold the stuffed kong or lick mat for your puppy to enjoy. Scratching the puppy while they are getting the shots can also help with distraction.

Try to bring your puppy to the vet regularly to hop on the scale and get lots of treats from the staff. This will help your puppy create a positive association with going to the vet.
