About Nicole Wiebusch

Owner & Head Trainer — Golden Paws Dog Training LLC

Hi, I’m Nicole. I’ve been training dogs for more than 25 years, and I’ve loved every minute of it.

I started training in 1995, began assisting with teaching obedience classes in 2005, and in 2008, I opened Golden Paws Dog Training. Before that, I worked as a veterinary technician, gaining valuable experience in handling dogs during medical procedures, and I also gained experience as a dog groomer. Both provided me with valuable insights into canine behavior, communication, and cooperative care.

Like many trainers who started in the 90s, I was initially taught to use correction-based training. My first dog, Max, worked because he had to. When I brought home Tucker, a golden retriever who shut down under pressure, I knew I needed a better way. Positive reinforcement changed everything — Tucker blossomed, and I discovered training could be kind, effective, and joyful.

Since then, I have dedicated my career to compassionate, effective, relationship-centered training and continuing education in these methods.

Today, I coach pet owners, sports teams, and handler–dog partnerships using humane, science-based methods that focus on communication, motivation, and emotional well-being. I am passionate about helping dogs and their humans work together as a team.

I currently teach both local clients and students worldwide as an instructor for Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, and I continue to invest in advanced education to bring the best of modern training to every team I work with.

I am fully insured, and references are available upon request.

My Dog Sports Journey

I actively compete in obedience, rally, and agility, and have also competed in dock diving and field work. Over the years, I’ve coached hundreds of students to advanced titles in obedience, rally, and agility — including UDXs, RACHs, and Master-level agility accomplishments.

I’m passionate about developing strong foundations, building engagement, and helping teams reach their full potential — whether that means earning a Novice title or stepping onto a national stage.

Dog Sports Accomplishments

My personal accomplishments include:

  • Numerous High in Trials and High Combineds in obedience with multiple dogs
  • Numerous High Triples and High Combineds in rally with multiple dogs
  • Multiple RACH titles (AKC Rally Championships)
  • Multiple UDX titles (Utility Dog Excellent)

  • Master Agility titles

Beyond earning titles, what I value most is the relationship and teamwork that comes from training through positive reinforcement. Titles are the outcome — connection is the goal.

Every dog teaches me something new — and I bring that experience into every lesson I teach.
